The rules and regulations governing the disposal and recycling of domestic and commercial waste are constantly evolving and are moving towards a total ban on landfill as a means of solving the problem. The future of landfill as a viable option for waste disposal is limited. By 2020 landfill will effectively be banned for the disposal of domestic waste. There is therefore a need for a new approach to waste management that will have the capacity to handle the ever increasing volumes in a manner that does not rely on landfill, that utilises recycling opportunities in a manner that produces revenue, that reduces the appetite for raw materials and that is ecologically viable.

It is clear that the issue of waste management and recycling has to be approached head-on with an imaginative solution that avoids the preconceptions of the existing industry to produce a creative financially viable facility integrated with infrastructure development. The solution must be flexible to accommodate the regional variations that will occur and take full advantage of fluctuating sources and flows of material.

The Twenty20 Group have arranged together a range of specialists with a common aim to improve the current fragmented approach to the National Waste Management issue. Energy from Waste must be viewed as a resource to assist the renewables energy issue.
